The Wheat Ridge Warriors lived up to their names and battled hard against the Jr Gents on Saturday. A carbon copy start from last week by the Jrs set the tone for the game and another big victory for the Jr Gents Rugby Club. Skipper Matt Williams made an accurate kick off and Robert Hiles claimed possession in midair! The aggressive running of Martinez and Gonzalez set up a sturdy platform and Olmer Marquez was over to score within the first five minutes of the match!
At times the Jr Gents were disjointed but still managed a second score after 20 minutes by Luke Prosence. Both tries were converted by the prodigious Hiles.
The Warriors kept the Jrs at bay and counter attacked with powerful running but the ever alert Williams snuck in with a quick dart to set up and easy conversion for Hiles. At the half the score was 21 – 0, Jr Gents
At the start of the second half, the Jr Gents set up a superb sequence of passing and running with Christian Gonzalez driving hard into the Warriors’ defense supported by Dardynski and Wampler. Williams picked up the ball at pace and strode in from 30 yards out to complete yet another hat-trick, becoming the all-time leading Jr Gents try scorer. In just six games he has scored 13 tries!
Jake Gentry’s persistence paid off as he scampered in for a score along with the irrepressible Martinez. The metronomic Hiles converted yet again finishing with a haul of seven conversions.
The final score Junior Gents 42 – Warriors 5.
