The Junior Gents fell 7-24 to Grand Junction Jr Griffins in a shock result on Saturday.
Leading 7-3 at the half and easily handling the very large Grand Junction Jr Griffins runners, it looked as though the Juniors would turn on the jets and dispose of the tiring Grand Junction boys but missed passes, lack of clinical execution in scoring areas, and Play-Off nerves caused the enigmatic Junior Gents to implode. In a hard uncompromising and very fair game the Junior Gents could not get going and use the full width of the field to exploit their undoubted running talents.
Matt Wampler scored a gritty try that was converted by Robert Hiles but scoring was not enough and the mistakes could not be eradicated. Two late scores by Grand Junction put the game out of reach. However, silver linings were seen through the performance of Noe Camarena and Irving Pimintel, who both battled bravely throughout.
It was a disappointing end to a season full of promise hindered by not enough rugby and last week’s cancellation. Many Junior Gents, including Prosence, Gentry, Hiles and Gonzalez, continue to work as they go forward to represent the All State team and who knows where they can go from there…
